Happy Anniversary to Resnik Hayes Moradi, LLP

Resnik Hayes Moradi LLP just passed its second anniversary in existence, July 1, 2020.  We are hanging in there with the current heath issues in our country.  Most of our attorneys and staff are working from home but we have not missed a beat on the quality services we strive to provide to our clients.  Here’s to your good health and Happy 4th of July.  Our firm resume is here.

Prober Raphael looking for an associate

From a post by Lee Raphael on Facebook:

My firm is in need of another attorney.  We were just awarded another 5-year contract to be a subcontractor for the DOJ in collections and bankruptcy matters.  Plus, we have a number of quiet title actions, surplus funds cases and other collection actions for our new attorney to lead.  If you are interested or know someone interested, please contact me.  We are willing to train the right candidate. I’m making this shareable in case you are so inclined.

AUSA position available

Email from Brendon Mockler, AUSA to Nina Javan

I saw your names listed on LACBA’s website as chair and vice chair of the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section.  I thought you might be able to help me pass along some information.

My section will soon post a vacancy announcement for an AUSA position in Los Angeles.  Although my section does not handle bankruptcy matters, our line of work has many similarities.  Our practice, which is mass volume, primarily involves enforcement of criminal restitution and fine obligations.  It would be particularly valuable to recruit a bankruptcy or collection lawyer, as many, if not all, of the essential skills overlap.

I was hoping you could pass along this email or my contact information to anyone who may be interested in the position.  I’m looking to generate some interest before posting the announcement on the Department of Justice website, and I’m happy to speak on the phone with all potential applicants so they can learn more about the position.

Please let me know if you can help.  I really appreciate your time.  Much thanks!

Congratulations to Russ Stong

Resnik Hayes Moradi LLP long time associate Russ Stong has just been notified that he passed the California state bar Bankruptcy Specialist Exam!  Our congratulations to him.   That means four of the seven RHM attorneys are certified bankruptcy specialists (at least as soon as Russ can get the rest of the forms into the state bar).

David Guess joins Greenberg Traurig

Guess_David_340My friend David Guess has joined the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig, “a law firm with more than 2,100 lawyers in 41 locations,” according to the website which says:

“David M. Guess focuses on business bankruptcy cases, out-of-court workouts, and bankruptcy litigation. He represents debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, asset purchasers, trustees, committees, litigation trusts, fraudulent transfer defendants, landlords, and others. David has particular experience in real estate, hospital, skilled nursing facility, retail, and restaurant bankruptcies, bankruptcy appeals, and fraudulent transfer litigation arising from failed LBOs and spinoffs.”

cdcbaa The torch has been passed, looking forward to the new year

Hale for postLucy professional photo

We had a great time at the Calvin Ashland Awards Dinner last week, honoring Howard Ehrenberg as the Trustee of the Year.  I’ll post his remarks soon.  His best advice to other trustees was, “Never take possession of something that has to eat.”

We also recognized our outgoing President Roksana Moradi-Brovia, and swore in incoming President Hale Antico.  Hale has been involved with the cdcbaa since before I joined the group and is a great consumer lawyer.  He built our first website.  He has been there very step of the way with my partner Roksana the last two years.  We are in good hands.  He has true enthusiasm and interest in our group and in continuing the good work we do.

Our incoming Vice-President is Lucy Mavyan, attorney for Chapter 7 Trustee Wes Avery.   We are looking forward to her active involvement.

Judge Charles Novack, Northern District Judge who did the 9th Circuit Review with Judge Julia Brand and I at Loyola Law School two years ago,  told me in July at the 9th circuit Judicial Conf in Spokane that he is still shocked that we got so many people to come to the program on a Saturday.  He was clearly impressed.  Judge Chris Klein from Sacramento will be coming down again this January to do the program with Judge Brand and I on January 18, 2020. Dean Prober RIP

Attorney Dean ProberEmail from my friend Lee Raphael,

It is with indescribable sadness that we inform our friends, clients, and business associates of the passing of Dean Prober, the firm’s senior partner and president. Dean passed away peacefully March 1, 2018, surrounded by his family after a heroic battle with cancer.

Dean was a graduate of UCLA and Southwestern School of Law. Dean’s passion for his practice and the law was second only to his unending love and devotion to his family, friends and co-workers. As one of the firm’s original partners, Dean worked tirelessly to build a law practice dedicated to the belief that you should never over promise to the client but instead do your darned best to surpass their expectations. The firm will carry on in Dean’s memory under the continued direction of managing partner Lee Raphael. Read more…
